A funny thing happened on the way to building another product.... We were talking with prospective users: bloggers in a vertical that we're interested in and we heard over and over again: Blogger sucks (their words, not ours); RSS doesn't allow me to decide where to syndicate; I don't want to move my blog; and so on. While these are interesting problems for our vertical, they are general problems for all sorts of bloggers, particularly those who are trying to blog professionally. So we thought, hey, since we're going to need to deal with it anyway, why don't we make something that we can turn loose and help a few people out? So here it is. We hope it helps.
John and ChrisIt's a lovely story, of a man named... No, we won't really do that to you. Chris and John are partners in a company called Value Media. Despite its soul-less name (one we'll never inflict on a product) our mission is soul-full, for a couple of geeks. We're trying to create great web apps that make the web a more useful place for people. In this case, those people are you: bloggers.
ChrisChris is an Übergeek from way back having worked on web technologies for the past 15 years with companies like Viaweb, Yahoo, Tellme Networks and Microsoft. Just for kicks he went back to Harvard to get his PhD in computer science and now we have to call him Dr. Chris.
JohnJohn can play a geek on TV but he's only believable if you yourself are not an actual geek. In theory, John is the business guy because he started a couple of companies, got his MBA at Northwestern, and was an investment banker for tech companies. However, given that having his MBA, he likely decreases the value of anything that Chris and his team builds, we like to keep John hidden in back where he can do less harm.
